Questions Jesus Asked - "What does it matter to you?"
This is a question Jesus asked Peter (John 21) and a sermon my Pastor just spoke about yesterday.
So often in our lives we compare ourselves to others. Always looking at what we don’t have, or laughing at those who don’t have what we do.
Pastor Omar said that even in the moments of feeling great about ourselves all we have to do is scroll social media and BAM we hate what we look like, want what others have, covet someone else’s marriage or parenting skills. Or we are so prideful we think we are better than our brother or sister.
He said we are so focused on what others are doing we take our eyes off Jesus. He said “don’t compare yourself to someone’s highlight reel”
He also explained that there is something called “Godly comparison”
This is when we look at someone Holy and strive to be like that. When we seek Christ and want to be more like him. Comparison needs to get away from envy.
When I look at this picture of my beautiful friend I see an anointed singer. The power she carries when she sings is something that can be felt throughout the whole church. I hear her and I know that’s the kind of power I want to sing with, the call to bring down heaven. THIS is Godly comparison, I am not envious of her singing on stage instead I pray for her, honor her gift and love her. Also who doesn’t want to sing like Lizzie
Comparing yourself to others will only lead to destruction. We can love God with all our heart but are so worried about what others are doing OR we are to busy being self serving that we miss what God wants to do in us.
Friend, can I tell you. God has made you who you are and has called you to be in this very place making an impact on people. Not everyone has the same calling and that’s ok. Everyone will have an opinion about your life, don’t let it get you off course.
Let God satisfy you, be grateful, keep your eyes on Jesus and stay in your lane.
