Are you also going to leave
This past Sunday Pastor Omar spoke about the time Jesus asked the disciples “Are you also going to leave”
This picture of John and I was taken after our failed IVF. This sermon hit hard because I almost walked away from God.
In John 6 Jesus made a statement about eating his flesh and drinking his blood (not literally). The disciples did not like what he was saying and were offended by it, in turn walking away from Jesus.
Pastor Omar said that just as the disciples grumbled about Jesus and what he was saying, we too can do the same. We don’t understand what or why things are happening and instead of talking to Jesus we walk away from him.
He said that we often times don’t trust Jesus. We forget the miracles he has performed.
Pastor Omar said that if we only look and seek the spiritual things we would never be hungry or thirsty again. He said that people get offended by the truths that Jesus brings.
Pastor Omar told us Hard truths can be offensive sometimes.
After I got the results of our IVF I was so angry with God. I didn’t want to go to church and I was ready to throw in the towel. Until my friend Lenny sat me down and told me the hard truth. He said that I didn’t even seek God in this situation,I just did what I wanted. I was offended but he wasn’t wrong. The truth hurt.
Pastor Omar said Spiritual and natural offense is a relationship tester. He said that we don’t mind when someone tells us something but when the truth is told we want to walk away.
Just as it is when we don’t get what we want. We are so quick to leave Jesus, which can actually hurt us more than staying and facing the hard truth.
Pastor Omar said that loyalty doesn’t begin until there is a disagreement. He said we may not walk away physically but in our heart we have.
He gave us 4 reasons that will cause you to walk away:
1) Unchecked Pride
2) Unwise Decisions
3) Unhealthy relationships
4) Unexpected distress
I almost walked away and that would have been a decision I would have regretted. Friend I encourage you to stay the course. Even when it gets hard or when you take offense. Nothing is better than being with Jesus. He can sustain you, just trust him!
